Welcome to Deerfield

A picture-perfect, diverse, historic place to put down roots

Conveniently situated along interstate 94, Deerfield is one of northern Chicago’s most upscale, friendly, and picture-perfect communities. A central downtown district decorated in stately red brick-clad structures serves as a host for bakeries, cafes, and other businesses owned by hardworking locals. A local Metra line station travels to more central Chicago neighborhoods throughout the day, making commutes into the city or to nearby O’Hare International Airport a breeze.

First home to several native tribes, European settlers arrived in 1835. Within a decade, the community was officially named Deerfield. A community fraught with important history, the Deerfield home of Lyman Wilmot served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Despite rapid advancements of the 21st century, Deerfield has not forgotten the more important aspects of the community. Museums and the local historical society have made great strides to preserve vital history, the village has passed important health laws, such as strict anti-smoking ordinances, and Deerfield is one of northern Chicago’s most diverse suburban communities.

Local Lifestyle

Overall, Deerfield residents enjoy quiet and prosperous surroundings. Parents rest assured knowing their children attend wonderful schools, widely known for stellar state testing results, high SAT and ACT scores, and near-perfect graduation rates. Opportunities for days spent in the great outdoors are ample, with a high number of parks, golf courses, and swimming pools available to community members. Within the heart of town, Chicago staples such as homemade Italian cuisine, fresh-baked goods, American diner classics, and iconic Chicago-style hot dogs are in no shortage, offering a delicate balance of swanky, upscale nights out and relaxed family settings.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

A local staple boasting indoor/outdoor dining and an intimate interior is also home to some of Chicago’s favorite Italian fare. Rosebud, a neighborhood favorite since 1976, has built a solid following over the years for their consistently delicious brick chicken, rigatoni, minestrone soup, and Vesuvio. A warmly lit bar serves an impressive array of wines from across the globe and delicious homemade desserts to top off the meal.

Other colorful confections can be found at Deerfields Bakery, the local go-to for cakes, cookies, and other handmade treats, perfect for any occasion. Largely famous for their gourmet butter cookies which now ship across the nation, locals don’t need a special reason to treat themselves to fresh pastries and donuts for breakfast, a slice of cake after lunch, or a macaron pick-me-up in the afternoon.

Beyond the white glove affluence of Deerfield, Cherry Pit Café is one of the community's timeless favorites. An unfussy and friendly atmosphere offers a step back in time, accompanied by an array of favorites from the good ole days. Chicken pot pie, roast beef sandwiches, diner-style cheeseburgers, and of course, lattice cherry pie are just a few of the simple comforts locals have adored since the ‘90s.

Chicago-style hot dogs topped with mustard, relish, sport peppers, and celery salt on a poppy seed bun is the specialty of Dear Franks of Deerfield. Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, Cheeseburgers, and Italian beef have been other crowd-pleasers since 1978.

Things To Do

One of Deerfield’s more luxurious extracurricular activities consists of golf, tennis, delectable dinners, and social gatherings at the Briarwood Country Club. Founded in 1921, this award-winning club features an 18-hole championship course which is considered by several to be one of the best within Chicagoland. Floral Park is a centrally located green space within the heart of town. Their tennis courts, sporting fields, and public pool are also favorite pastimes among community members. More swimming can be found at Deerspring Pool. This spacious summer hotspot often hosts “dive-in” movie nights, features a shallow wading area, water cannons and geysers especially enjoyed by children, and a separate deeper diving area.

Deerfield is home to another one of northern Chicago’s high-performing schools. Locals take pride in knowing their children attend:

  • Deerfield High School, grades 9-12; Illinois’ 12th-ranked high school boasts a stellar graduation rate, high SAT and ACT scores, and has been named as a National Blue Ribbon School
